Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Townsville .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Townsville Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

Title or Location: Princes Pier, Melboune
I was photographing a sunset at the iconic Princes Pier Pylons when a huge rain storm came through. After scurrying for cover for a half hour for the rain to stop.I walked out on the pier again and saw the double rainbow forming and took a 3 image pano to get the hole rainbow in the image. There was so much water on the concrete pier that it provided the great reflections to finish off the photo off nicely.

Title or Location: Windmill under the stars in North Queensland
I captured this in a local farmers paddock, I added a couple low level lights for the foreground. The windmill was just turning enough the blur the blades and not move the head.

One of the last photos from this particular morning's outing and I was perfectly photo bombed by a passing bird. Not that I'm complaining, to me, it makes the shot! &128513

Title or Location: Sunset at Paluma Dam.
Lake Paluma camp grounds are an awesome spot for a bit of North Queensland winter camping in the mountains and rain forest. The conditions were so still on the weekend we were treated with some awesome reflections but with our typical winter skies, there was not a lot of cloud about. Camp fires being lit left smoke lingering in the trees and on to the water.

Thank you for considering my photo for Photo of the Week! I have a number of bottle brush trees in my back yard, and birds love the blossoms when they bloom in the Spring. I usually see numerous hummingbirds and sparrows, but I saw this gorgeous bird one afternoon resting in the branches. I was able to get a couple of shots off before it flew away.

Title or Location: Bald Head Island, North Carolina, USA
This blossom was on a small Magnolia tree sheltered from the wind and weather on Bald Head Island. When I spied this blossom the sun light was beginning to illuminate the petals. Time time spent waiting for the pictorial moment gave me time to more deeply appreciate the beauty of this transient blossom. Taken with a Nikon D850, tripod, 70-200 in close distance. Single image-no stacking.

So after waiting months for some decent weather and perfect lighting conditions, as well as the tide to go out.. I was finally able to get the perfect photograph that focuses on the Lighthouse in all of its glory!
